India’s frontline seamer Jasprit Bumrah is ruled out of the 5th Test due to workload management, as the BCCI medical team took a call not to play him to safeguard his back and keep his long-term career in mind.
Jasprit Bumrah, whom the BCCI medical team has been continuously monitoring after he suffered a back injury, had been advised not to participate in more than three Tests in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which was announced during the team selection process. However, with the Test series in line, many speculated that Bumrah might play in the Oval Test.

Bumrah Rested as Precaution
As per ESPN Cricinfo, the BCCI medical team is not ready to take a risk on Bumrah, considering his long-term fitness. With Bumrah out, Akash Deep, who missed the Manchester Test, is in line to replace the right-arm seamer.
Jasprit Bumrah has led the bowling unit wonderfully in this series, being a fear factor to England batters. The seamer picked up 14 wickets in 3 Tests, including two five-wicket hauls at Lord's Cricket Ground. However, his form slightly dipped in the 4th Test, where he conceded more than 100 runs from his bowling and was visibly struggling to bowl at a consistent pace..
Akash Deep Declared Fit
There was speculation that Bumrah might retire after the 4th Test to manage his workload and focus fully on limited-overs cricket. But that was not the case, as Bumrah was rested for the 5th Test as per medical advice.
Meanwhile, Akash Deep, who has been nursing a hip injury, has been declared fully fit. He had a good series in terms of numbers, picking up 11 wickets in 4 innings, including a 10-wicket haul in the 2nd Test, where he helped India make history at Edgbaston.

With Bumrah out of the equation, the Indian bowling unit might see some changes. Arshdeep Singh, who is also fit, could replace Anshul Kamboj in the playing XI and could join the likes of Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj in the mix. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav is also rumoured to get his chance in this series, and depending on the surface, he could replace Shardul Thakur in the line-up.
