India is playing against England in the first Test match at Headingley in Leeds. On the expected lines, India has handed over debut cap to Sai Sudarshan. The southpaw earned his place in the playing XI due to his stellar performances for Tamil Nadu in Ranji Cricket and Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season. The southpaw was the top-scorer in IPL, scoring 759 runs. Before the all-important toss, Cheteshwar Pujara presented Sudarshan with his debut cap.
In a heartwarming moment, Pujara, who has represented India in over 100 Tests and has a phenomenal record against England, was asked to do the honor of presenting the cap to the very talented Sudarshan. As soon as the southpaw received the cap, all the teammates and coaching staff gave him a big round of applause. Pujara, who also scored more than 5000 Test runs at the number three position, will be eager to see how Sudarshan goes about his business in the crucial role.

There are lofty expectations from the Indian side and fans from the Tamil Nadu player, as he has quietly established himself as a bright young talent. There is a sense of calmness and composure in the youngster as he plays proper cricketing shots. Despite the modern T20 batsmanship calls for brute power and force, Sudarshan comes off as a breath of fresh air as he is very methodical in his methods and plays classical shots just like South Africa's Aiden Markram.
