India will take on Sri Lanka in the last Super Four match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 on Friday, September 26. The former is already through to the finals on Sunday, September 28, while the latter is out of the Continental Cup after losing two games against Bangladesh and Pakistan. The Island nation only has pride left to play against the unbeaten Indians.
While the Suryakumar Yadav-led side has sealed the spot for the summit clash, there is still scope for improvement, especially in the fielding department. India has dropped 10 catches in the last two matches. For a side that takes pride in doing well on the field, these errors would not please the fielding coach one bit. Against Sri Lanka, the Asia Cup defending champions would be keen to do well in the fielding department and try to get another win to their name.

Apart from fielding, India would also be worried about the form of the middle and lower-order batters. Suryakumar, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Varma have not been at their fluent best. The skipper's lack of runs is very concerning, as he has not scored a 50+ score since 10 T20Is. While he has looked superb while leading the side, Surya's no blitz with the bat has been a bit worrying. Also, there is no role clarity regarding Samson's batting position.
While the Kerala batter scored one score of fifty at number five, he did not bat at that position in the game against Bangladesh. It remains to be seen if the RR skipper gets to bat at number five against Sri Lanka.
The Island nation's exit from the Continental Cup is due to poor batting. No batter apart from Pathum Nissanka looked convincing. Lack of runs from the middle-order batters like Charith Asalanka, Kusal Perera, and Karunaratne has resulted in the team posting low scores. The team that scores more middle-order runs in the IND vs SL game will benefit the most heading to the T20 World Cup 2026.
