Sri Lanka Cricket (SCL) has dismissed swirling allegations of financial crises in the country after speculations of it within the organization for the past couple of days. The SLC board has vehemently denied the false claims circulating across the cricketing circle in the news portal and on social media pages for the past few days.

For the unversed, the news gathered steam and surfaced online, across TV channels, as the Island nation gears up to co-host the T20 World Cup 2026 alongside India in February-March 2026. The SLC has now addressed all the false claims and has also officially confirmed that the financial operations within the organization are running smoothly as it prepares to co-host the global event.

“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to clarify that recent claims circulating on social media suggesting a financial crisis within the organization are completely unfounded and misleading. We affirm that Sri Lanka Cricket possesses sufficient financial stability to manage its operations as well as to implement its long-term strategic initiatives,” an SLC media release dated Thursday, July 31 read.

“At present, SLC is actively and successfully engaged in preparations to co-host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026 alongside India, and to conduct 11 matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 scheduled for September this year. Such comprehensive planning and execution are only possible with sound financial backing,” the statement read further.

SLC board aims to provide a top-notch facility for the T20 World Cup 2026

The statement further stated that the SLC is trying its best to provide top-notch facilities, with international standards, for the upcoming T20 World Cup. It also further aims to enhance the cricketing landscape and infrastructure in the country, even at the grassroots levels. The board also has plans to instill environment-friendly options like solar-powered devices to help grow the game to a stable future.
