Vaibhav Suryavanshi added another feather to his sensational career after the 14-year-old was felicitated with the PM Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, India’s highest civilian honour for children. He received the award from the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in cricket.

The teenage sensation has captured nationwide attention with his impressive performances, drawing comparisons to legendary players who began their careers at a young age. Suryavanshi’s rapid rise has made him one of the most talked-about young talents in Indian cricket.

PM Rashtriya Bal Puraskar: Recognising Excellence at a Young Age

The PM Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is awarded annually by the Government of India to children below the age of 18 for exceptional achievements in fields such as sports, arts, culture, innovation, social service, bravery and academics. The award aims to recognise and celebrate young individuals who demonstrate excellence, perseverance and commitment at an early age, serving as inspiration for others across the country.

Suryavanshi created history last year by becoming the youngest player ever to secure an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract, after being signed by the Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.1 crore. Several notable milestones have marked his meteoric rise over the past year.

Ahead of his IPL debut, he scored a stunning 58-ball century for India in a four-day match against Australia Under-19. He also represented India at the 2024 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, where he amassed 176 runs at an average of 44, including two half-centuries.

He announced his arrival on the big stage by smashing a six off the very first ball he faced on his IPL debut. He went on to score a century just two matches later, creating history by becoming the youngest player to score a hundred in the world’s toughest T20 league.
